4 in 1 painting inspired by scenes in the Blue Ridge Mountains

This 11x14 acrylic painting was created for the Silver Arts Exhibition in Hendersonville, N.C.

I tried to select some of my favorite fall images from the Blue Ridge Mountains and put them in as miniature paintings on a single canvas. It serves as a reminder of some of the places we have visited and sights we have seen.

Clothes Line Poem - for those who remember what a clothesline is/was

This arrived in my email this morning - wanted to share it

Clothesline Poem - author unknown

A clothesline was a news forecast
To neighbors passing by.
There were no secrets you could keep
When clothes were hung to dry.
It also was a friendly link
For neighbors always knew
If company had stopped on by
To spend a night or two.
For then you'd see the "fancy sheets"
And towels upon the line;
You'd see the "company table cloths"
With intricate designs.
The line announced a baby's birth
From folks who lived inside -
As brand new infant clothes were hung,
So carefully with pride!
The ages of the children could
So readily be known
By watching how the sizes changed,
You'd know how much they'd grown!
It also told when illness struck,
As extra sheets were hung;
Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe, too,
Haphazardly were strung.
It also said, "Gone on vacation now"
When lines hung limp and bare.
It told, "We're back!" when full lines sagged
With not an inch to spare!
New folks in town were scorned upon
If wash was dingy and gray,
As neighbors carefully raised their brows,
And looked the other way . . ..
But clotheslines now are of the past,
For dryers make work much less.
Now what goes on inside a home
Is any body's guess!
I really miss that way of life.
It was a friendly sign
When neighbors knew each other best
By what hung on the line!

Easter Sunset Skies in the Blue Ridge mountains

This beautiful sky seemed to indicate all is well - and was the perfect ending to a perfect Easter Sunday. It is offered as a 5x7 print in my Etsy photo store - Nature's Views. This would make a beautiful framed print on the walls of your home.  While the print is offered unmatted and unframed, I have included the free option of selecting from 4 different digital edges to this print - if that is what you would like.  US shipping is free on this print.

Fall Colors at Looking Glass - a Blue Ridge Mountains waterfall Original Painting

This is a brand new original Acrylic painting done on stretched canvas. It was inspired by photographs I took during the fall season at Looking Glass Falls which is on Route 276 between the town of Brevard and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
It is offered for sale in my Etsy painting store: http://patadamsart.etsy.com/

Spring arrives in the Blue Ridge mountains

I waited so long for the daffodils to appear this year. Our winter was very cold and long, and although the stems peeked through the ground in January, these beauties did not open until about a week ago. And when they did, their buds were so enormous that the weight of them opening caused them to immediately droop to the ground - as if they were too shy to show their faces.

Awesome January Sky

Today's skies ran almost the entire range of what you could possibly imagine - and then some.  This was one of many moods found in the sky late this afternoon. One minute there was almost blue sky and sunshine, and then just as quickly, clouds streaked across the sky as if a huge storm would be here any minute. So I ran out to take a photo - and by the time I had it downloaded on my computer, there was blue sky and sunshine outside. But within another couple of minutes, there were ominous black clouds racing across the horizon. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride. So I just popped this photo in a digital frame and decided to share it.

So very cold this morning. Twelve degrees and very windy

Blinding, but beautiful sunrise here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. A good time to stay indoors and watch the birds through the window.

This was the spectacular sight as I went out to get the morning newspaper.

An 8x10 photo print of this scene can be found in my Etsy Photo store at Pat's photo store on Etsy

Can't you just imagine this framed and hanging in your living room!!

White Squirrel in Hendersonville's Blue Ridge Mountains

This is a bookmark for children that I created from photos I took of a local white squirrel. It used to be we had to walk over to the nearby horse ranch to see the white squirrels, but now one of them has followed a gray squirrel to the trees near our house. They run so fast, and chase each other through the tall trees alongside our house, - it is as if they were playing tag.

You can purchase this bookmark at my Nature'sViews store on Etsy by following this link  Pat's Etsy Photo Print store. The white squirrels are very skinny, and very fast. They leap through the treetops at lightning speed, and you will try to follow one with your camera, and will suddenly lose sight of him. Then, a couple of minutes, the white squirrel appears on a totally different tree, or possibly on the ground not far from where you are standing. They are amazing creatures. Story is they escaped from a traveling circus in Brevard, N.C. and have flourished here - and are expanding their stomping grounds.
